What Do Do About Smoke Detector Beeping Problems

If you are experiencing smoke detector beeping, there are a few steps you can take to eliminate the noise and keep yourself protected. Your smoke detector beeping can be fixed by doing four simple checks. If after these four steps your detector has not calmed, you may need to replace the unit.

Most often when the smoke detector beeping starts the batteries have seen their last day. Check to see if the battery is loose first and if not replace or recharge the battery within the unit. Close the battery compartment tight to secure it in, and hopefully this should solve the beeping.

Dirt may also be a factor in your cause for smoke detector beeping. Take the unit cover off and remove all dust, dirt and grime that have built up. You can even take a rag or vacuum to the unit that is secured on the wall or ceiling to get your unit completely free of anything that could affect how it is operating. Regularly cleaning the alarm can give you longer and more reliable used from the smoke alarm.

If these two methods have not worked, simply try resetting the unit. If your smoke detector beeping is coming from a unit ran from batteries, pull the battery or batteries out, wait a few seconds, then put them back in the unit. If the unit is hooked up through an outlet try resetting your circuit breaker completely. Note however, that this will reset everything in your home plugged into the wall.

If your persistent beeping is still haunting your home, go out and get a whole new alarm unit. They are cheap and readily available which is great for something that could end up saving you or your family members lives one night. Always keep working units in the home to better protect your home.
